Looking For Physiotherapy After A Car Accident? | Move Physiotherapy East Fremantle
If you have been recently injured in a car accident – even as a cyclist or pedestrian – you may be eligible to receive physiotherapy which is funded by the Insurance Commission of WA (ICWA).
Regardless of the severity of your injury, it is important to be assessed by a medical professional, and if required, commence treatment as soon after your accident as possible. Pain can occasionally become persistent and last a number of weeks or months following a car accident which can become exceptionally frustrating for those involved.
For your claim to be processed through the ICWA, you will need to have a referral from your treating doctor and lodge a claim with the ICWA prior to attending. We have outlined the process you need to take to start your insurance claim in this article. During your initial appointment, you will be required to present a copy of your doctors referral letter and your ICWA claim number.
Following your accident Move Physiotherapy East Fremantle will assist you with a personalised treatment program, and keep all health professionals and third party insurers up to date during your rehabilitation.
Move Physiotherapy East Fremantle does not charge you an out of pocket expense for physiotherapy with an ICWA claim.

COMMON INJURIES FOLLOWING A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT
Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVAs) can result in ‘knots’ and tight bands of muscle. Most commonly affected are the neck, lower back and shoulders. Your physiotherapist can comprehensively assess these areas following your car accident, refer for scans if necessary and provide treatment.
Especially in the case of whiplash type injuries, the sooner you can commence physiotherapy after a car accident, the better!
Whiplash style injuries can stretch and jar the joints and muscles of the neck and shoulders which can result in persistent headaches and even migraines. Your physiotherapist can use a combination of techniques including massage, dry needling and heat therapies to relieve this muscle spasm and prevent persistent pain.
In more severe cases, car accidents can result in wide spread pain which can become frustrating and debilitating for those who are suffering, and their loved ones.
Your physiotherapist is often the middle person who will correspond with your insurance company, treating doctor and any other medical services involved.
Broken bones are an unfortunate reality following high speed car accidents. These are most commonly detected by your doctor, however can occasionally be missed.
Bone healing times are generally 6 weeks and a period of casting or immobilisation may be required. Your physiotherapist can guide you through your rehabilitation to ensure you regain your strength and range of movement following this type of injury.
At Move Physiotherapy, we want to ensure that you are not only pain free following your motor vehicle accident, but also able to resume all of your normal day to day activities.
Especially in the case of long standing musculoskeletal pain, it is important to engage in appropriate exercise rehabilitation. Move Physiotherapy is equipped with a full in house gymnasium to get you back to resuming the activities that you love.
Did you know that many headaches are triggered by tight joints and muscles in and around the neck and shoulders? Commonly your C1/2 segment of your cervical spine will trigger a headache around the eyes and temples.
Shoulder pain is highly common following a motor vehicle accident. For this reason, we have created the following flowchart which can be used to self-diagnose your shoulder pain.
Your physiotherapist will expertly diagnose your shoulder pain and create you an individualised rehabilitation program.
